The rain garden design collects runoff from 25% of the warehouse roof (about 3,000sf) by disconnecting one of the warehouse roof drains from the public storm sewer. The project cut a shallow eight-inch drainage pipe and daylighted runoff into 500 square foot rain garden. Runoff as it enters the rain garden is diverted in two directions. Salvaged rock was installed around the overflow to dam water and encourage infiltration. Native rock was installed sporadically across the two flow routes of the garden. Includes 11 different plant species including Tussock Sedge, Blue Lobelia, and Marsh Milkweed.
Project was installed by staff at Habitat ReStore and volunteers from State Street Bank and BNIM Architects.
Project was designed by BNIM Architects.
